What is CVV or CVC code?

This is a type of code that you will find on the back side of your credit card or debit card. This number is often asked when you conduct online transactions. CVV has full form (Card Verification Value) and CVC has full form (Card Verification Code).

History of CVV

Actually, there are some codes on debit cards and credit cards, which are called card security codes (CSC). It was invented in 1995 in the UK by Michael Stone. After the investigation of CSC, 'Association of Payment Clearing Services' adopted this security concept. In the initial period, the CVV code consisted of 11 digits. But later it was kept from 3 to 4 digits.

When you fill the details of your card during the transaction through Paytm, Frecharge or any other application, you are asked for CVV code. If you do not fill this code, then the payment remains incomplete.

Why CVV Code Necessary?

By the way, CVV code is used only for security. It is in the back of the card and whenever we remove the card somewhere in public places, its upper part is in front, wherein the card number and expiry date is mentioned. In such a situation, due to being in the back of the CVV code card, people are saved from being a victim of fraud.
